    Kevin Mannens email
Kevin made this chair for fun in at the end of November. He is not a designer, but an animator who works with Maya. Hence, this lounge was modeled and rendered in Maya.

    1. Where did the designer or engineers go to school?
I studied philosophy at the University of Leuven in Belgium.
    2. What research took place before the project kickoff?
None. Just a spur of the moment.
3.How were tools like Alias Studio, Pro/DESIGNER, Rhino, 3d Max, FormZ, ICEM
Surf, Pro/ENGINEER,    Unigraphics, Catia, Solidworks used to prove shape
    and form.

I used Maya SubD's for the cushions and Nurbs for the iron stuff. For the white render I used raydiffuse to render

Chairs by Replica Nation rendered in our Next Gen hardware. We have the worlds fastest photoreal hardware render. We can produce an image like this 50x faster than any photoreal render. We are the guys that take your 3 hour render to 7 minutes and we interface seamlessly into the top design visualization products. We are a  small company based in the UK who would love to have some designers know we exist.

ART Makes Virtual Furniture Real for ReplicaNation

RenderDrive's Photorealism Vital to Architectural E-Business.

ReplicaNation, the virtual furnishings provider is using ART's (Advanced Rendering Technology) RenderDrive 3D rendering system to deliver the ultimate visual realizations of its stock-in-trade to strategic partners and customers.

ReplicaNation provides a web-based library of top furniture designs available as downloadable models for 3D artists, architects and interior designers. ReplicaNation's library of designs allows 3D professionals to 'populate' their architectural spaces with high-quality 3D representations of authentic premium brand furniture, created with the approval of the manufacturers. Working from sources provided by the creators of internationally renowned brands, ReplicaNation builds digital clones of contemporary and classic designs. To showcase the superb quality of the model data, ReplicaNation chose RenderDrive's hardware-assisted ray tracing environment.

"The images we create with RenderDrive set us apart as a quality-driven company and help us convince potential partners to trust their brands to the 3D environment," says ReplicaNation's Digital Content Manager James Mann. "When we first saw RenderDrive we were seduced by the quality of the images, and we carry that seductive image quality through to our partners and customers."

And as Mann points out, rendering the models with RenderDrive can also show his team at ReplicaNation when the data needs improving. "A highly accurate renderer is a useful tool in quality control of our models. We can rely on RenderDrive to deliver consistently accurate results and that helps us analyze how and where we can make improvements to the data."

RenderDrive uses physically-accurate rendering methods that allow architects and designers to work intuitively with 3D models in a rendering universe adhering to the same rules that govern our own. Light sources, surfaces, reflections and refraction's all behave naturalistically, making it easy to achieve outstanding images without the complicated workarounds and idiosyncrasies required by other rendering products. With the ability to create animations and walk-throughs of photographic quality, RenderDrive is already widely used by architectural firms and property developers to set a new standard of sophistication in property design, planning and marketing.

    About ART:

    Business Description
Advanced Rendering Technology (ART) is a world leader in 3D rendering acceleration with headquarters in Cambridge UK and field offices in Michigan, New York, and Japan. The company developed the first, and only, 3D graphics processors that can create images of true realism. The quality and speed of conventional software 3D rendering is the biggest bottleneck for the productivity and value of computer generated imaging. Conventional 3D graphics chips do not deliver image quality good enough for final image production. Only a silicon solution based on ray tracing, such as ART's, has the potential to deliver the required image quality and performance.

    Product Information
PURE and RenderDrive, ART's family of 3D rendering products, harness the power of the company's ray tracing 3D graphics processors to deliver many times the computing power of general-purpose processing platforms. PURE is a revolutionary PCI 3D rendering board for graphics workstations. RenderDrive is a networked 3D rendering appliance providing enterprise-wide high quality rendering. Both product lines can be used with many 3D applications including 3dsmax, 3D Studio VIZ, Maya, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Pro/ENGINEER and any RenderMan compatible application.

ART has made it much easier for anyone to create imagery of the highest possible quality, on budget and within production deadlines. ART's 3D rendering products combine high performance with a physically-based rendering environment, freeing designers to create what they want in a real and predictable 3D space, without long waits to see results, and without disappointing results.

    Strategic Partnerships
Strategic partners include 3D content creation application companies such as Alias/Wavefront, Autodesk, Discreet, SolidWorks, and UGS. ART is partnered with Texas Instruments for chip fabrication.

    Market & Customers
Key market segments for ART include Industrial Design & Engineering, Professional Animation (TV, Film, Games Development), and Architecture/Engineering/Construction.
